The Braw Lads’ Gathering likes to include all of our community; our schools are no different. The Committee of the Braw Lads’ Executive works closely with the schools in our area to ensure that every child has the opportunity to be involved in the Gathering.

Schools Involvement in the Gathering



The Braw Lads’ Gathering likes to include all of our community; our schools are no different. The Committee of the Braw Lads’ Executive works closely with the schools in our area to ensure that every child has the opportunity to be involved in the Gathering. We recognise and thank all the School Staff for the significant work that is done in the preparation and delivery of the many activities associated with the Gathering. It is very much a team effort.


Perhaps the most obvious connection with schools and the Gathering is when the Braw Lad, Braw Lass and Attendants visit during Braw Lads’ Week. Each school welcomes the Official party in their own special way, the Braw Lad will say a few words and, along with the Braw Lass, will present rosettes, medals and certificates to those who have been involved in our competitions and events.



SchoolChildren's Concert



All schools in and around Galashiels were invited to take part in this concert. Each school performed one song taken from the Braw Lads’ songbook.

School Art & Essay Competitions



In the weeks leading up to Braw Lads’ Week, all schools run a competition for pupils.


There are prizes at each school for the best Art and also prizes for the best Expressive Art.


Some of the entries will be on display in a town centre shop window during Braw Lads’ Week.



BRAW LADS’ SPORTS DAY



Fun and Games for all the family.

Admission for adults is £5 and all children go free.

All activities once inside the ground will be free.

Food and drinks are available for purchase. Events include:

10am Braw Lads’ Gathering Gymkhana

Rugby Sevens: Football Fives:

12 Noon Bouncy Castles, Face Painting, Punch and Judy and Pony Rides, all of which are free.

1.15pm Braw Lass Bouquet Presentation and Flower Parade

1.30pm Children’s Sports – entries through individual schools

2.00pm Bands and entertainment



Braw lads' swimming Gala



Open to all schoolchildren aged 8 and over. Swimmers compete for points for their school and the winning school will be presented with the Douglas Brown Trophy by the Braw Lad and Braw Lass.


All children wishing to compete should contact their school or Galashiels Swimming Pool.


Admission by donation.
